THE WORKSHOP

In dance classes, choreography and technique will be taught. Workshop choreographies are set to various palos (song forms and rhythms). Choreographies are the original work of the artists/teachers, and students learn flamenco through the experience and unique abilities that these master artists/teachers bring to their work. Workshops consist of six (6) hours of instruction over the course of seven (7) days, June 20-26. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance.

Manuel Jiménez will not teach on Thursday, June 25.

Manuel Jiménez

Manuel Jiménez Montes is a flamenco dancer recognized for his discipline and rigor in the pursuit of artistic excellence. Born in Córdoba in 1997, he began his training with María “La Chata” at the Tacón y Bordón Academy. By the age of 27, he had already performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the United States.

He earned a professional degree in flamenco dance from the Luis del Río Professional Dance Conservatory in Córdoba and later completed a degree in flamenco dance pedagogy at the María de Ávila Higher Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. His master’s studies focused on flamenco research and analysis. His extensive training includes classical ballet, Spanish dance, flamenco, and contemporary dance with renowned artists such as Farruquito, Manuel “El Carpetas,” Rubén Olmo, Ángel Rojas, Valeriano Paños, Rafael Estévez, Álvaro Paños, and Carmen Manzanera, among others.

In Spain, Jiménez has performed at major festivals and venues including the Cata de Montilla alongside Marina Heredia, Carmen Linares, and Dorantes; the Moriles Festival with Rubén Olmo; Teatro Góngora in Córdoba; the Villa del Río Festival; and the legendary tablaos Casa Patas and Las Carboneras. He has also performed with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía at Teatros del Canal and at the 50th Anniversary Festival of the Tertulia Flamenca of Ceuta, accompanying the master singer Manuel Moreno Maya “El Pele.”

Internationally, he has appeared throughout Europe, the United Arab Emirates, and on tour in the United States, performing in Nevada and California. Most recently, he performed in Geneva as a soloist and member of the Ballet Flamenco Español, alongside artists including Antonio Sánchez, nephew of Paco de Lucía.
