About
José Almarcha
José Almarcha began to play the guitar at the age of 8 in his hometown of Tomelloso, Spain. He began more serious study at the age of 12 under Oscar Herrero. An award-winning guitarist and composer, Almarcha trained at the prestigious Conservatorio Superior de Música Rafael Orozco in Córdoba. Winner of the International Flamenco Guitar Competition “Niño Ricardo,” he has become a sought-after soloist and collaborator, praised for his rich sound and expressive clarity.
His solo albums Vejezate and Alejandra received critical acclaim, featuring collaborations with Antonio Canales, Sandra Carrasco, and Jorge Pardo. Almarcha has also composed music for major flamenco productions, including works by Marco Flores and Sara Calero.
Though he spends most of his time performing in flamenco festivals and tablaos, when he has a chance to teach guitar students, he grounds his students in technical strength before moving on to artistic interpretations.
