About

conTRAcuerpo

c o n t r a

prep. denotes the opposition and difference of one thing to another;

prep. in front of;

prep. toward denotes the direction of movement);

prep. in exchange for.

The prefix CONTRA seems like a contradiction in itself. It can indicate the direction of a movement, a position of resistance, or an act of exchange. This is how Daniel Ramos defines his relationship to dance: conTRAcuerpo. Toward it, face to face with it, against it, and in return for everything it means to him.

His body, half-naked, like a blank canvas or an empty vessel, gradually fills with memories, experiences, and contradictions. Solemnity, tradition, and the established order collide with spontaneity, play, and the unexpected, revealing Daniel Ramos exactly as he is.
