About

THE WORKSHOP

In dance classes, choreography and technique will be taught. Workshop choreographies are set to various palos (song forms and rhythms). Choreographies are the original work of the artists/teachers, and students learn flamenco through the experience and unique abilities that these master artists/teachers bring to their work.

Workshops consist of six (6) hours of instruction over the course of seven (7) days, June 20-26. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance. Daniel Ramos will not teach on Saturday, June 20.

Danza Estilizada Española consists of composed steps and choreographies based on the movement vocabulary from popular and classical Spanish dance. Danza Estilizada Española is highly theatrical and artistic in its interpretation, and utilizes the music of many of Spain’s great composers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Danza Estilizada Española builds upon knowledge of classical dance (ballet), Escuela Bolera, flamenco, Spanish folk dance, and castanets. Training in castanets is vital for the dancer of this genre. Castanets, castañuelas, or palillos are used to enrich the movement and music of this dance form.

Castanets are required for this class, and can be purchased at the Festival Flamenco Alburquerque retail store.
