Mario Febres discovered the art of flamenco guitar in 2000, immersing himself in its rich history and tradition. He began his studies in Baltimore, Maryland, under Paul Villmoare, sparking a deep interest in Spanish music, culture, and language. In 2001, Mario moved to New Mexico to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the College of Santa Fe, where he studied under the renowned flamenco guitarist José “Chuscales” Valle.

In 2003, Mario participated in a study abroad program in Spain, learning from esteemed guitarist Enrique Vargas. Returning to Santa Fe for his senior year, he became a private instructor of flamenco guitar at the College of Santa Fe, sharing his growing expertise with aspiring musicians.

In 2006, Mario joined Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, further honing his skills and performing professionally. For years, he contributed to the Yjastros Company while teaching flamenco guitar at the charter school Tierra Adentro, inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Currently, Mario is pursuing advanced studies in flamenco guitar in Madrid, Spain, deepening his knowledge and mastery of the art form. His dedication to flamenco continues to evolve, blending tradition with personal expression as he works to preserve and advance this celebrated Spanish musical heritage.
