About
Jesús CORBACHO
Jesús Corbacho Vázquez (Huelva, 1986), a devoted admirer of Pastora, Tomás Pavón, Pinto, Marchena, and Caracol, began singing his first fandangos at just two and a half years old. His father instilled in him a deep passion for the traditional songs of his homeland from an early age. At only eleven years old, he won First Prize at the National Fandangos Competition “Paco Toronjo” in Alosno in the children’s category—an award he would later win again in the adult category. Among his many accolades is the First Prize for Malagueñas at the 48th International Festival of Cante de las Minas de La Unión in 2008.
He has worked with leading figures in flamenco dance such as Mario Maya, Milagros Mengíbar, Merche Esmeralda, Eva Yerbabuena, Belén Maya, Rocío Molina, Pastora Galván, Rafael and Adela Campallo, Jesús Carmona, Mercedes de Córdoba, “El Choro,” Olga Pericet, Manuel Liñán, Marco Flores, and many others. He has performed in major venues including New York City Center, the Sydney Opera House, Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, and Sadler’s Wells in London, among others. He has also appeared at prominent festivals such as the Biennial of Seville, the Mont-de-Marsan Flamenco Festival, the Flamenco Festival in the U.S. and U.K., the Málaga Flamenco Biennial, the Cante de las Minas Festival in La Unión, the Jerez Festival, the Caja Madrid Festival, and more. In 2023, he received the Award for Best Accompanying Singing at the 27th Festival de Jerez.
He has appeared as a guest artist with the Spanish National Ballet in the production Alento y Zaguán, directed by Antonio Najarro, and with the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet in En la memoria del cante: 1922, directed by Rafaela Carrasco.
In terms of discography, his first solo album Debajo del romero stands out, along with collaborations on recordings such as Tiempo Presente by Michele Iaccarino; Historia Antológica del Fandango de Huelva; Fandango Joven; Herencia; and Esta noche es Navidad as a member of the group “Niños de Huelva”; as well as Movimiento by Luis Medina.
As a solo singer, he has performed at major flamenco festivals including the Chicago Flamenco Festival (USA), the Huelva Flamenco Festival, the Festival de Jerez, the Suma Flamenca Festival in Madrid, and the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music (Morocco). He also participated in the production Divino Tesoro, directed by José Luis Ortiz Nuevo, receiving critical acclaim such as:
“Jesús Corbacho from Huelva was outstanding in his guajira in the style of Marchena and his fandangos in the style of Pinto, with his distinctive vocal timbre and unmistakable personality.”
— Manuel Bohórquez, El Correo de Andalucía
In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Lámpara Minera at the 63rd International Festival of Cante de las Minas de La Unión—the highest distinction in flamenco singing—along with the Prize for Cantes Bajoandaluces for his interpretation of guajiras.
