The Workshop

This class will look briefly at the three main components of flamenco – cante, baile, and toque, and the contributions of respected artists throughout history to each of these elements. Students will examine recent historical research into the African, Latin American and Romani contributions to the art of flamenco, including Encinias’s dissertation and university course materials and lectures refined over her decades of teaching Flamenco History and Appreciation. Lastly the workshops will discuss the current international flamenco scene, including some of the innovative practitioners in this year’s festival. Encinias will not teach on June 27.

Her new work, titled FLAMENCO FANDANGUERO (premiered April 2024), is a work of flamenco and son jarocho dance and music theatre.
