The Workshop

Get warmed up and ready for your Festival workshops with Deanna Encinias, an experienced professional dancer and teacher of ballet who also holds a personal training license for youth and adults.

Workshops consist of six (6) hours of instruction over the course of seven (7) days unless otherwise noted, June 21-27. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance. Deanna Encinias will not teach on June 27.

Deanna Encinias

A lifelong dancer, Deanna Encinias has trained extensively with ballet and Spanish Classical masters including Lynn Crawford (Atlanta Ballet), Karen Alwin (Albuquerque, NM), Mel Tomlinson (New York City Ballet), Melissa Hayden (New York City Ballet), Luis Fuente (Joffrey Chicago), Pedro Azorín (Madrid, Spain), Joaquin Villa & Pacita Tomas (Madrid, Spain). Deanna’s profesional experience includes University of New Mexico Dance Ensemble including soloist in Anthony Tudor’s Dark Elegies (1988-1994), soloist with NM Ballet Company including roles of Sugar Plum Fairy, Karen in the Red Shoes, and the lead in Balanchine’s Serenade (1990-2006), soloist with Ballet Repertory Theatre including the title role in Cinderella and touring The Nutcracker around New Mexico as Sugar Plum Fairy (1996-2001). Teaching experience includes Alwin School of Dance intermediate and advanced ballet classes (1987-2011), University of New Mexico- Flamenco 169 and Escuela Bolera (1993-1995), Walnut Hill School for the Arts near Boston, MA – advanced ballet (1998), Tierra Adentro of New Mexico: The New Mexico School of Academics, Art and Artesania – Upper-level dance (2010-present), and the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts (Jota, ballet, and Escuela Bolera) (2018-present).
