THE WORKSHOP

In this class the student will study the intricacies of the rhythmic hand clapping and “swing” (soniquete) that is the basis for all flamenco song, dance and music. The student studies time structure and phrasing in flamenco and investigates the nuance that gives the rhythm life. This is a must-take course for all students of flamenco.
Workshops consist of six (6) hours of instruction over the course of seven (7) days, June 20-26. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance.

Anabel Rivera will not teach on Thursday, June 25.

Anabel Rivera

Anabel Rivera, born in the Mentidero neighborhood of Cádiz, is an experienced singer with a long and distinguished career.

Winner of second prize in the National Alegrías Contest of Cádiz, second prize in the Cádiz Tientos Contest, and second prize in the Bulerías category of the San Fernando Singing Contest, she has performed in festivals and theatres around the world alongside renowned artists such as Niña Pastori, El Barrio, Pilar Ogalla, Javier LaTorre, and India Martínez, among others.

She has appeared at major international flamenco festivals including the New York Flamenco Festival, Munich Flamenco Festival, Monterrey Flamenco Festival, Luxembourg Flamenco Festival, and the Instituto Cervantes festivals in Bucharest and Paris. Her performances also include the Catalonia Flamenco Art Festival, Suma Flamenca in Madrid, Potaje de Utrera, Gazpacho de Morón de la Frontera, La Noche Blanca del Flamenco in Córdoba, the Seville Biennial, the Jerez Flamenco Festival, and Flamenco Thursdays in Cádiz.

Currently, she collaborates with David Palomar’s Flamenco Company and Marina Heredia and Dorantes’ Flamenco Company, in addition to her regular performances at Tablao Flamenco Cordobés in Barcelona.
