About

The Workshop

In the Juvenil Folclor dance classes, students will learn traditional movements, rhythms, and styles from various regions of Spain. The workshop routines are based on different “palos” (song forms and rhythms) and are the original creations of the artists/teachers. Students experience Spanish folclor dance through the unique perspectives and skills that these master instructors bring to their work.

Festival Juvenil is the youth component of Festival Flamenco Alburquerque. This program is part of FFABQ 38 as the premier national flamenco camp for experienced young flamenco dancers ages 10-15. Students will take exclusive Festival Juvenil classes together as part of a cohort, taught by Festival guest artists.

Workshops consist of six (6) sessions of instruction over the course of seven (7) days, June 21-27. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance.
Schedules, artists, and pricing on all FFABQ 38 programming subject to change.

Although born in Barcelona, David Sánchez “El Galli” moved at the age of 10 to his family’s hometown of Morón de la Frontera. From an early age, he displayed a deep passion for music and flamenco, immersing himself in the art of cante jondo during family gatherings alongside Morón’s legendary masters, Diego del Gastor and El Andorrano.

His professional career began in some of Spain’s most prestigious tablaos, including El Cordobés, Los Gallos, Arenal, Corral de la Morería, and Casa Patas. As his reputation grew, he was invited to perform at major flamenco festivals, showcasing his talent as a soloist. He participated in Jóvenes Flamencos in 2004 and the Bienal de Sevilla in 2006. The following year, he took the stage at the Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque in New Mexico alongside José Maya and La Moneta, and later joined the Flamenco Dance Company of Juan Andrés Maya.

Beyond the festival circuit, El Galli has appeared in numerous television programs dedicated to flamenco and has toured extensively across the world.
