The Workshop
In this class the student will study the intricacies of the rhythmic hand clapping and “swing” (soniquete) that is the basis for all flamenco song, dance and music. The student studies time structure and phrasing in flamenco and investigates the nuance that gives the rhythm life. This is a must-take course for all students of flamenco.
Workshops consist of six (6) hours of instruction over the course of seven (7) days, June 21-27. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance. Emilio Castañeda will not teach on June 22.

Emilio Castañeda is a distinguished flamenco artist from Sevilla, Spain, renowned for his exceptional skills as a (bailaor) and (palmero). His profound dedication to flamenco has led him to collaborate with esteemed artists and perform on prestigious stages worldwide.
Throughout his career, Emilio has been a pivotal figure in various flamenco ensembles. Notably, he has performed alongside acclaimed dancer Noelia Vicente Vargas, guitarist Thierry Boisdon, and singer Jesús Morente, contributing to the vibrant flamenco scene in venues such as Barbalé Flamenco Tablao in Oslo.
Emilio’s artistry has been showcased in significant flamenco festivals, including the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. His participation in productions like 66 Palos, directed and choreographed by Juan de Juan, underscores his versatility and commitment to the evolution of flamenco.
In addition to his performances, Emilio has been involved in various flamenco cycles and events. For instance, he led a performance with his ensemble at the Peña Flamenca La Siguiriya in Osuna, demonstrating his leadership and dedication to promoting flamenco culture.
Emilio’s collaborations extend to working with emerging talents in the flamenco community. He has provided rhythmic accompaniment for artists such as José ‘El Berenjeno’ and Manuel Cantarote, contributing to the dynamic presentations at events like the Jornadas Flamencas Ciudad de Valladolid.
