Sandra Carrasco

Sandra Carrasco, born  in Huelva, Spain, is a versatile singer whose roots in flamenco have seamlessly blended with genres like bossa nova, jazz, and world music.

She began her vocal training in Sevilla under the guidance of Adelita Domingo and Amparo Correa. Early in her career, she collaborated with renowned flamenco artists such as Arcángel, El Pele, Manolo Sanlúcar, Miguel Poveda, and Estrella Morente. Her talent was further recognized when she won several fandango competitions in Huelva. She also earned a scholarship at the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco in Sevilla. Academically, Sandra pursued a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Music Education at the University of Huelva.

In 2007, Sandra moved to Madrid to join the musical “Enamorados Anónimos,” directed by Blanca Li and produced by Javier Limón. This collaboration led to her self-titled debut album, “Sandra Carrasco,” released under EMI Music. Following this, she toured globally with sitarist Anoushka Shankar and performed with Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen at the Olympia in Paris.

Her discography includes “Océano” (2014), featuring Latin American classics alongside musicians like Chuchito Valdés and Javier Colina, and “Travesía” (2016), which was listed among Spain’s top 100 albums. In 2020, she released “La Luz del Entendimiento,” a homage to pioneering female flamenco singers, in collaboration with pianist Pedro Ojesto.

Sandra’s versatility is evident in her collaborations with artists across various genres, including Richard Bona, María Peláe, and José Luis Montón. She has also contributed to projects like Carlos Saura’s “Flamenco Hoy” and performed with the Ballet Nacional de España.

In recent years, Sandra has paid tribute to flamenco legend Pepe Marchena through the project “Recordando a Marchena,” alongside guitarist David de Arahal. This endeavor has been well-received, with performances across Spain and internationally, including a notable appearance at Le Poisson Rouge in New York.

Sandra Carrasco’s dynamic career reflects her commitment to both preserving flamenco traditions and exploring new musical landscapes, solidifying her status as a significant figure in contemporary Spanish music.
