Jesús María Torres Alhama is a renowned flamenco guitarist, composer, and educator with over 40 years of professional experience in the flamenco world. He specializes in accompaniment for dance, singing, and solo guitar, having worked with some of the most prominent figures and companies in the flamenco scene. Jesús holds a degree in Flamenco Guitar from the Conservatorio Superior Rafael Orozco in Córdoba and a Master’s in Flamencology from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona.
Throughout his career, Jesús has collaborated with many prestigious dancers, including Mario Maya, Antonio Gades, José Greco, Meche Esmeralda, Belén Maya, Israel Galván, Rocío Molina, Rafaela Carrasco, Andrés Marín, Paco Peña, Isabel Bayón, Javier la Torre, David Coria, Paula Comitre, and Florencia OZ, among others. He has also worked with top flamenco companies such as the Ballet Nacional de España (BNE), Compañía Andaluza de Danza, Ballet Andaluz, and Compañía David Coria. As an accompanying guitarist, he has accompanied flamenco dancers in their most important performances, contributing significantly to the rhythm and expression of flamenco dance.
In addition to his work as a guitarist, Jesús is an accomplished composer and musical director. He has composed music for several dance productions, including Zagüan (BNE, directed by Antonio Najarro), various productions of the Compañía Andaluza de Danza (directed by Mario Maya), and projects for the Ballet Andaluz (directed by Rafaela Carrasco). One of his major contributions was the BNE production dedicated to Mario Maya, directed by Rubén Olmos. Jesús also has a discography, including the album Viento del Norte (produced by Isabel Bayón, 20XX), a tribute to the late flamenco guitarist José María Velázquez Gaztelu.
As an educator, Jesús has been a professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila in Madrid since 2010. He teaches courses that focus on the technique of dance accompaniment, composition, and the traditions of flamenco, passing on his extensive knowledge to new generations of flamenco artists.
Born in Baracaldo, Vizcaya, in 1965, into a family with roots in Seville, Jesús began playing the guitar at the age of 11, initially as a self-taught musician. In the 1980s, he moved to Madrid to specialize in flamenco dance accompaniment, a decision that launched a successful career working with some of the foremost figures in the flamenco industry. Today, he continues to combine his stage performances with teaching and composing, remaining an influential figure in the world of flamenco.
