About

The Workshop

In dance classes, choreography and technique will be taught. Workshop choreographies are set to various palos (song forms and rhythms). Choreographies are the original work of the artists/teachers, and students learn flamenco through the experience and unique abilities that these master artists/teachers bring to their work

Workshops consist of six (6) hours of instruction over the course of seven (6) days, June 21-27. Instructors generally do not teach on the day of their scheduled performance. Ana Morales will not teach on June 21.

Ana Morales (Barcelona, 1982), dancer and bailaora, is a leading figure in the new generation revolutionizing contemporary flamenco. Described by Didier Deschamps, director of the Théâtre Chaillot in Paris, as embodying “intensity, elegance, and sensuality,” Morales captivates with her mastery of movement and stage presence.

Winner of the 2022 Spanish National Dance Prize, her choreographic work blends flamenco and contemporary dance, marked by a search for authenticity and emotional resonance. Morales’ creations evolve with her personal journey, incorporating improvisation and cross-disciplinary influences.

She has premiered seven acclaimed productions, including Sin Permiso. Canciones para el Silencio (2018), which earned the Giraldillo al Baile, three Lorca Awards, and international recognition. Other notable works include En la cuerda floja (2020), Una mirada lenta (2017), Los pasos perdidos (2016), and Reciclarte (2012).

Morales has collaborated with renowned artists and institutions such as Esperanza Fernández, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Rafaela Carrasco, Javier Latorre, and Andrés Marín. She has also appeared as a soloist in Carlos Saura’s Flamenco Hoy and Iberia and performed with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía in celebrated productions like Imágenes, winner of the Giraldillo Award for Best Show at the 2014 Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla.
