Castiza

Synopsis

“Castiza” is the story of a girl born in Spain’s capital, where she was formed and raised with the traditional family customs of Madrid, and who discovered the genre of “ La Revista” at the hand of her elders. Every time she walked through Madrid’s streets, it was an adventure and a great learning experience. The city taught her many things, and that is why she pays this tribute to her city! And as the “castizos” say, “De Madrid al Cielo! (From Madrid to heaven!)

This delightful work is based on Vanesa Coloma’s own experiences of the capital, combined with a survey of genuine artistic contributions that changed the course of flamenco, caused by historical cultural moments, all this framed in the genre of “La Revista” Musical, recovering this theatrical and flamenco-inflected styles such as chotis, pasodobles, and copla, motivating an affectionate remembrance for all It is a flamenco show with live music, guitar, singing and of course… a lot of dancing. There will also be recordings of music that take us back in time and thus make the trip to “La Capital” and those very “castizo” styles. Coloma breathes new life into rescue traditional flamenco dances of the Capital such as “Los Caracoles,” “La Farruca,” and that special rumba from the 80’s, the “movida madrileña.”

“Her dance is convincing, credible, and tasty… and that’s why we came, to remember the importance of celebrating enjoyment and taste.” – Tamara Pastora, deflamenco.com
